Dr. Baxter was Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 1997, and specializes in sports-related injuries, arthroscopy, joint replacements, and trauma. He is licensed to practice medicine in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi. He maintains active affiliations with Southern Hills Medical Center, Williamson Medical Center, Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics Surgery Center, and Physicians Pavilion. He maintains courtesy privileges at Saint Thomas Hospital and referral privileges at Baptist Hospital. Dr. Baxter was valedictorian of his high school class and the recipient of a Governor’s Scholarship Award. He obtained his undergraduate education at the University of Mississippi and Delta State University. He achieved his Medical Degree from the University of Mississippi, and did his general surgery internship in the Department of General Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. He also received his Orthopaedic training there, where he was the recipient of the Outstand Resident Teacher Award. He was also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Baxter is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Tennessee Medical Association, Tennessee Orthopaedic Society, and Nashville Medical Association. He has been in private practice in Nashville since 1995. Founded in 1969, the Vanderbilt Neurology Department provides a range of neurological care services to adults and children. The department treats more than 1,500 neurology adult patients annually and offers over 1,000 inpatient and nearly 2,000 emergency department consulting services every year. It maintains consulting practice, epilepsy, headache, neuromuscular disease, stroke, and sleep and movement disorder divisions. The Vanderbilt Neurology Department offers pediatric neurology services to approximately 200 children annually. The department also conducts research projects in various areas, including brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, neurocritical care, dystonia, muscular dystrophy and Parkinson s disease. It features an epilepsy monitoring unit, sleep center and certified neurosonology laboratory. The Vanderbilt Neurology Department maintains a location in Nashville, Tenn., and is a part of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
