Founded in 1969, the Vanderbilt Neurology Department provides a range of neurological care services to adults and children. The department treats more than 1,500 neurology adult patients annually and offers over 1,000 inpatient and nearly 2,000 emergency department consulting services every year. It maintains consulting practice, epilepsy, headache, neuromuscular disease, stroke, and sleep and movement disorder divisions. The Vanderbilt Neurology Department offers pediatric neurology services to approximately 200 children annually. The department also conducts research projects in various areas, including brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, neurocritical care, dystonia, muscular dystrophy and Parkinson s disease. It features an epilepsy monitoring unit, sleep center and certified neurosonology laboratory. The Vanderbilt Neurology Department maintains a location in Nashville, Tenn., and is a part of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
