Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance is the largest orthopaedic surgery group in Nashville and Middle Tennessee, and one of the largest in the nation. We also have ancillary facilities that provide for your MRI and hand therapy and physical therapy needs. Southern Hills Medical Center has served the Nashville community for more than 25 years. Built in 1979, the hospital opened October 15 and served mostly southern Davidson County residents. Since that time, the hospital has grown to as many as 180 beds, has seen major internal and external renovations and serves three counties, which include Davidson, Williamson and Rutherford. Southern Hills medical staff has more than 300 members representing nearly 20 specialties. All are board certified or board eligible. Family Practice Associates has grown from just one physician to more than 10. The hospitals emergency department continues to be one of the busiest in the city. In 2004, emergency room visits totaled more than 35,000. Southern Hills was one of the first to pioneer bedside registration and was one of the first hospitals in middle Tennessee to offer community-based angioplasty. BIOGRAPHY Dr. Damon H. Petty is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, Fellowship Trained in Sports Medicine. He received his bachelor’s degree with honors from Harvard University and his MD from the University of Virginia. Dr. Petty performed his 5-year Orthopaedic Residency Training at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, followed by a Sports Medicine Fellowship with Drs. James R. Andrews and William Clancy in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Petty is nationally recognized for his expertise in minimally invasive shoulder surgery and reconstruction of the Ulnar Collateral Ligament. He has written and published papers for the American Journal of Sports Medicine on elbow and shoulder injuries in throwing athletes and is recognized as “Nashville’s Baseball Doctor.” Dr. Petty served as team physician for the Nashville Metros Soccer team, and currently serves Cumberland University and Trevecca Nazarene University. Dr. Petty is the former team physician for the Nashville Sounds, serving with them through the end of their affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was also team physician for the Tennessee Diamonds Fastpitch Softball when they were located in Nashville during the 2010 season. He has treated players from multiple Major League Baseball organizations, including the NY Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Kansas City Royals. Dr. Petty is a member of the invitation-only American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He also holds membership in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

BIOGRAPHY Dr. William B. Kurtz is board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacements. Dr. Kurtz holds a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Rice University. He graduated medical school from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas with Alpha Omega Alpha honors distinction. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, followed by a subspecialty fellowship in adult reconstructive joint surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. He is now currently on the medical staff at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital, Saint Thomas Hospital for Specialty Surgery, and Centennial Medical Center. Dr. Kurtz currently serves on the TOA board, the Faith Family Medical Center board, the Conformis surgical advisor board for both the customer knee and custom hip replacements. He has developed both knee and hip replacement implants and holds over 14 patents. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Society of Arthritic Joint Surgery, the Mid-America Orthopedic Society, the Tennessee Orthopedic Society and the Vanderbilt Orthopedic Society. He has continued involvement in scientific research throughout his career. He published his study on the effects of bony impingement on range of motion in total hip arthroplasty in 2009 and his patented leg length study in 2011. He is currently involved in a 10 year prospective custom knee replacement study and has recently completed a study with Dr. Richard Komistek analyzing the kinematics of custom knee replacements. This kinematic study was recently accepted for publication in Journal of Arthroplasty. Dr. Kurtz is a native of Houston, Texas and has lived in Nashville since 2000. He is married to Emily Graham Kurtz, the medical director at M-power Health. They have three children, Claire, Christian, and Caroline, and a yellow lab named Merry. He is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. He is also a member of the Nashville Entrepreneur Center and enjoys helping local Nashville healthcare startups.
