Laura Fecych Sprague, an independent museum curator, was first associated with the collections at Tate House in 1980 and has worked often on the Museums behalf in the intervening years. Tate House Museum hired her as the consulting curator in March 2010. A scholar of the material culture, the decorative arts and interiors in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Maine, Laura Sprague has published extensively, including the landmark Agreeable Situations: Society, Commerce and Art in Southern Maine, 1780-1830 (Kennebunk, Me.: The Brick Store Museum, 1987). She oversaw the 2000-2002 centennial restoration of the Wadsworth-Longfellow House at the Maine Historical Society in Portland. Henry Wadsworth Longfellows boyhood home was the first historic house open to the public in Maine in 1901. Laura Sprague also serves as consulting curator of decorative arts for the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, a post she has held since 1989. Her clients for exhibitions and publications include the Brick Store Museum Maine Historical Society, Portland Museum of Art, and Maine State Museum. She serves on the collections committees for Maine Historical Society and Victoria (Morse-Libby) Mansion. She was a public member of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission from 1997 to 2007. In 2007 she completed a research fellowship on Maine furniture at the Henry Francis DuPont Winterthur Museum and Library, presenting new research at Winterthurs Furniture Forum in April 2009 and March 2010. Café Drydock and Inn is located opposite the Village green in the center of Southwest Harbor Maine, surrounded by Acadia National Park. A pleasant five minute walk from the Inn brings you to the docks, boatyards, and Coast Guard Station of this working harbor. On the opposite shore lies Manset, home of the world famous Hinckley Boatyard. There are many beautiful mountain top or seaside walks on the quiet side of Acadia National Park. Ships Harbor, Wonderland, and Beech Mountain are but a few sights to see. You will be within walking distance of the water or a five minute drive to many activities, including sailing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and biking. Our lounge and restaurant occupy the first floor of this historic building. Central stairs will lead you to our 12 foot wide hall, giving you the feeling of lots of air and space. Four of our rooms include kitchenettes. All have private baths, air conditioning, flat screens, cable TV, telephone and are nicely decorated. Join us on Mount Desert Island in Southwest Harbor Maine at our Dry Dock Restaurant for lunch and dinner or our lighter fare menu which is available all evening, or just relax with a cocktail – we offer a full bar, wine list and beer list. We open for the day at 11:00 am serving lunch till 4:00 pm, then dinner and lighter fare till 9:30 in the early and late season and 10:00 in the peak of summer. Our lounge is open till 10:30 pm with great music on Wednesday nights and lots of fun people. Our menu includes Chicken Boursin, Scallops Mornay, Walkers Wellington, Filet Mignon, Lobster, Great salads, home made soups and chowders, burgers, nachos & numerous entrees made with fresh native fish and seafood. Our steaks are all hand cut. Of course, the most popular is our Maine Lobster which is delivered fresh daily along with all our seafood. From 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm join the friendly gathering in the lounge for our generous cocktail specials.
