Natural Lands Trust has a wildlife preserve located in Upper Gwynedd, which is one of their 41 nature preserves. NLT protects land through direct acquisition (by donation or purchase) and with conservation easements. The Sheldrake Environmental Center offers a variety of nature programs for all ages and during all four seasons. The center is adjacent to the Larchmont reservoir and the James G. Johnson Jr. Conservancy, and has access to the beautiful woods behind the house, where nature studies are conducted. The environmental center is located in a large white house on Weaver Street, on the outskirts of Larchmont.
The 5,800 acres park has natural and developed areas and more than 40 miles of trails and camping at Kumeyaay Lake. Other points of interest include a Visitors and Interpretive Center and amphitheater. It is also the site of the Old Mission Dam, which was built to supply water for Mission San Diego de Alcala.
