This nonprofit charitable organization is funded by local donations and civic organizations, like the Clara Barton Society and operated by 100 tireless volunteers. Every first Saturday and third Wednesday of the month, it opens the doors of its warehouse location (1050 West Ranger Ave.). An Alameda institution, Girls Incorporated of the Island City (known as Girls Inc.) is affiliated with the national organization by the same name. Girls Inc.'s mission is to inspire girls and young women to be strong, smart and bold. Mastick Senior Center is a large, organized, and attractive facility with plenty of services and activities from a game room, to a social hall, to a beautiful garden area, and even a computer room. The staff are helpful, patient, flexible, and communicate well with both patrons and people checking out the space. The number of services offered by the organization is staggering, with almost 20 pages of information with events, services, and other highlights in a monthly newsletter called The Mastick Bee, which is available upon request.

Alameda Point Collaborative is a community of more than 500 people, including over 250 children, offering its members various programs, including affordable housing, mental and physical health services and employment, in an integrated, comprehensive effort. Rather than addressing individual factors associated with homelessness, in isolation, APC builds a community that fosters support and interaction. It provides the necessary environment for residents to regain control of their lives and build stable futures. The project started with the closure and conversion of the Alameda Naval Air Station. The organization received 34 acres of land, including 239 housing units and space for a community garden, a commercial plant nursery, a health center and a community center. Alameda Point Collaborative is located in Alameda, Calif.

An Alameda institution since 1949, when it was founded as the Alameda Boys Club by local businessman Leonard E. Lee, the Club began to incorporate girls into programing in the 1980s and officially became the Alameda Boys & Girls Club in 1991.

Operating in partnership with many other community groups, the Alameda Boys & Girls Club aims to "inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential," providing them with recreational and educational opportunities in a safe and welcoming setting.

 In 2006, the Club began a capital campaign to replace the organization's Lincoln Avenue building, and in 2010 it broke ground at a 1.5-acre site. The new west end facility will include a gym, teen center, game room, computer lab, learning center, music and dance areas, a dental clinic and a health clinic.
