This location of the Norwalk Senior Center is a bilingual social center with a variety of programs serving Norwalk's older population. Art therapy, English as a Second Language (ESL), and citizenship courses are offered, as well as recreational bingo and cards.  If you need a hand doing your shopping, stop by the center at 1pm on Mondays to get a lift.  The Web site has a complete list of courses, activities and events.

These residential rental units are for seniors aged 62 or older, who qualify as either low income or in need of handicap-adapted amenities. The grounds and buildings are maintained beautifully and the interiors are clean and functional. While there usually is a waiting list, apartments do become available on occasion. Located in Norwalk, Conn., ElderHouse is a nonprofit agency that is funded by the United Way and the Southwestern Connecticut Agency. It offers nursing care and assessment, medication administration, personal care assistance and podiatry services. The agency also provides meals and dietary monitoring, counseling, caregiver respite and transportation services. Its nursing services include weight and blood monitoring, medication administration and glucose testing. ElderHouse additionally provides supervision and private aid, as well as grooming, dressing, toileting, hair care and walking assistance services for clients. The agency organizes a range of small group activities, such as music, arts and crafts, gardening and cooking.

Norwalk's Meals on Wheels, located in the Norwalk Senior Center on Allen Road, has been delivering daily meals to city residents for more than 25 years. Norwalk Senior Center Executive Director Paul Palermo said that 85 people are currently receiving meals through this Norwalk non-profit agency. Anyone living in Norwalk who cannot shop for or prepare his or her own meals is eligible to apply. Payment is based on income using a sliding scale. Seven days' worth of meals (one hot meal and one cold meal daily) are provided. The caterer-prepared meals are delivered Monday through Friday by volunteers. Meals for Saturday and Sunday are delivered along with the Thursday and/or Friday meals.

Norwalk also operates a Meals on Wheels at its south site: 92 Cedar Street in South Norwalk. That site is open Monday–Friday, 9:00am–2:00pm.

Norwalk's Senior Services Coordinating Council – The Senior Umbrella – is dedicated to making it possible for low- and moderate-income seniors to be independent and live in their own homes.

Staff services include case management, home visits, and help with applying for financial aid programs such as ConnPACE and Medicare Part D (prescriptions), food stamps, SSI, Medicaid, energy assistance, renters' tax relief, homeowners' tax rebate, and other programs.

Senior Services also helps seniors assemble LifePacks containing their medical history and information that is kept in their homes and in their cars.

The Allen Road location of the Norwalk Senior Center offers a wide variety of programs and events for Norwalk's senior citizens. 

Recreational group activities, such as bingo, billiards, outdoor bocce and card games, are offered periodically during the week.  There is a computer learning center that offers courses, and for active seniors, a variety of exercise classes.  Instruction is available, and a calendar of events is online.

There are several programs designed to assist homebound seniors as well, such as Meals on Wheels and dial-a-ride.  Want to help?  Contact the Center, as volunteers are always appreciated and donations are accepted.
