Located in Kingsport, Tenn., Bays Mountain Park facilities includes more than 3,500-acre of outdoor classroom area, more than 44-acres of lake, a nature center housing exhibits, planetarium, watershed room, library, gift shop and staff offices. It also has a farmstead museum and herpetarium that contains a presentation area and houses live reptiles and amphibian displays. The park is nestled in the northeastern end of the Bays Mountain formation and is a protected haven for wildlife. The park s volunteers trained by park professionals aid in every phase of the parks operation, such as taking small groups of students on nature hikes and teaching grade-level curriculum. Bays Mountain Park also offers various educational programs including general public nature and school field trip nature programs and presentations, such as in-school presentations, home school, general public planetarium and school planetarium presentations.

Marble Springs, the home of the first governor of Tennessee, John Sevier, is located at the foot of Bays Mountain, about 5 miles south of Knoxville off U.S. Highway 441. The mission of Knoxville Zoological Gardens is to celebrate the wonders of the natural world. Through education, conservation, exhibition, research and recreation, the zoo will tell the stories of the animals, the plants and the people who make up the communities of the earth. The zoo will develop positive attitudes and actions about nature and about conservation as a local and global issue.
