The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, Inc is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of natural resources and wildlife habitat on and around Sanibel and Captiva. Since incorporating in 1967, SCCF has acquired and preserved environmentally sensitive land on and around the islands. This land includes critical wildlife habitats, rare and unique subtropical plant communities, tidal wetlands, and freshwater wetlands along the Sanibel River. Without protection, many of these areas would have been lost to residential and commercial development, either directly or by fragmentation of habitat. The Foundation has approximately 21 full-time staff members, one part-time consultant, three interns, 300 volunteers, and 3, 000 members. Six priority program areas forward its mission: Environmental Education, Land Acquisition, Landscaping for Wildlife, Marine Research, Natural Resource Policy, Sea Turtle Conservation, and Wildlife Habitat Management. Our barrier islands are a fragile environment. What you enjoy here today is the result of the concerted efforts of the many who preceded us. They have made a difference. We encourage you to join us in the continuing stewardship of our sanctuary islands. Copyright George Graham Implement a land-management program on SCCF land that can serve as a model for effective stewardship. Work with government agencies, businesses, and private individuals to develop an integrated management approach to lands on the islands both developed and undeveloped.
