This park offers scenic views of the Connecticut River, funky public sculptures, picnic tables, benches and lots of grass. This is a good place for quiet contemplation (there's also fishing off the boardwalk). Just downriver are boathouses for the Wesleyan University and Middletown High School crew teams, whose slender sculls can be seen slicing the water in season. It's not all serenity, though; Harbor Park is also the scene of the annual July Fourth festivities and other events.
Kosciuszko Park, a lively recreation spot located on the shores of Stamford Harbor, features baseball fields and basketball courts. There are also picnic tables and pavilions, grilling grounds, swings and playsets. The park is open from dusk until dawn and the department of parks and recreation encourages visitors to follow the rules. Athletic field use is by permit only.
Popular with rock climbers, Chatfield Hollow State Park offers a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, moutain biking, swimming and fishing. Pets are allowed in picnic areas and hiking trails. Leashes are required.
