Ziller of Kansas City is an engrossing ( calligraphy ) art studio that was founded by Frederick W. Tamblyn in 1895. Tamblyn started as the Tamblyn School of Penmanship which was a correspondence course program. As his business grew he opened Tamblyn Studios specializing in penmanship, engrossing and designing. In 1933, Stephen A. Ziller, a Zanerian College graduate, came to work for F. W. Tamblyn. Three years later Ziller purchased the studio and later changed the name to Ziller of Kansas City. Ziller changed the direction of the studio to include more engrossing, certificates, diplomas and diploma covers. In 1993, Stephen Ziller retired and moved to Ohio to be closer to his son. For a short history of F.W. Tamblyn and S.A. Ziller, please go to the page that we have developed for each of them. From her early years of studying art at the Paseo High School in Kansas City, Missouri, Vivian had expressed an interest and desire to learn more about calligraphy.

The School for Little Children (SLC) has been an Evanston institution for more than 75 years and is clearly the A-list of local parents' preschool picks...so much so that there's always a waiting list and not enough room for everyone who wants to enroll. Located within the sprawling campus of the prominent First Presbyterian Church of Evanston but an independent organization from the church, SLC prides itself in welcoming all families with an emphasis on disability inclusion (SLC will provide aides and professional support as needed). Classes for ages 2-5 are grouped by age in the mornings (which is the most difficult to secure enrollment, so be patient) and in mixed-age groups in the afternoon. The School runs a very popular beach camp in the summer and also offers parent-tot and music classes.

Seasoned and extremely personable Executive Director Carol Teske -- herself a former SLC parent -- is in her eighth year in charge and 18th year with the organization. SLC is proud to enjoy generations of students among its alumni.

SLC is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the National Academy of Early Childhood Program.
