Owned by Gina DeMuro, Saddle Ridge is located on 28 acres of beautiful mountain and trail land. The former Nike Missle Battery, includes a large, lighted indoor arena, outdoor pens and plenty of gated horse stalls. Lessons and equine boarding are available as well as parties. The facility is clean and well maintained. Customers can enjoy a variety of other services, such as summer camp parties and trail rides. The office is located in first building on the left hand side of road entrance. Staff is extremely friendly.
A facility of the Morris Country Park Commission, the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center is located on the 44 acres of the Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge that the Park Commission is responsible for. The refuge consists of 7,600 acres of varied habitats, where over 244 species of birds and other endangered or threatened animal and plant species live and feed.
Learn the history of the Great Swamp, from the historic battle that kept the swamp from becoming an airport in 1960 to the epic retreat of the Wisconsin Glacier 20,000 year ago that formed the glacial lake bottom you stand on today. Consider the mind-blowing-ness of it all while hiking one of the four trails, totaling 1.4 miles, or attending one of the Education Center's many classes and walks.
The Center also hosts birthday parties and other events.
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs was established in 1916 and is located right across from Newark's Branch Brook Park and cathedral. Here you can aquire park permits and recreational equipment for most Essex County parks, including Verona Park, Eagle Rock and South Mountain Reservation.
