Located on Fenwick Lane Elizabeth House is home to an active and diverse senior community. Elizabeth House has over 200 units, a swimming pool and dynamic residence committee and on site nutritionist. The health department offers immunizations, screenings, checkups and other medical services for county residents who lack adequate health insurance. It also offers free substance abuse, smoking cessation and counseling programs, with a wide range of programs for children, seniors and women.
The Baltimore County Council is in session year-round, meeting twice a month to vote on issues and hear testimony on bills. While all council members have offices in their districts, all of them also have offices in Towson. The offices and council chambers are on the second floor of the county courthouse. The current councilman for District 5, which includes Towson, is Vince Gardina.
The county seat has been stationed in Towson since the mid-1800s, after the city of Baltimore left the county. While many county services are now located in the newer courthouse facing Bosley Avenue, many administrative functions, including the county executive, the county council, the budget and finance office and the department of economic development, are still here.

The main goal of the wildlife research center and the geological survey is to provide the public and researchers information to help better manage our biological resources. This is the headquarters facility and the public is not permitted. The research center was established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1936. Today the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service continue to work together.
National Institutes of Health is a federal medical research center located in Bethesda. The facility, which is under the umbrella of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, employs more than 18,000 individuals on its Bethesda campus and is made up of 27 different institutes and centers. NIH supports medical research for a variety of diseases and disorders. Its campus also encompasses the National Library of Medicine and the Children's Inn at NIH, a nonprofit home for families of sick children taking part in research trials at the institute.
The Baltimore County Office of Human Resources screens and recruits candidates to fill open county positions and provides resources, training, benefits and equipment for county employees. Since 2007, the department only accepts online applications for county jobs through its website. No solicitation is allowed at its Towson office.
The Takoma Park Community Center features an art room, game room, teen room and an auditorium that hosts film screenings and performances. The facilities are located on Maple Avenue in a building that formerly housed government offices.
Providence Volunteer Fire Company is a 100% volunteer organization based on Providence Road, serving Towson and the surrounding areas. Led by Captain David Smith, the company was established more than 50 years ago and offers a wide range of services to the community, including fire suppression, rescue, collapse rescue and emergency medical services. The company has all types of equipment and vehicles to assist residents, including 2 Engines, a 109' ladder truck (with rescue tools), and a flood light service vehicle, among others.
The company also offers birthday party services for children in the community and provides a fire safety presentation, use of the fire hose, a tour of the station and souvenirs for the party goers.
