Employing approximately 222 full-time teachers, Athens City Schools has an average student teacher ratio of 15 to 1. Teacher salaries in the school system average the third highest in the state of Alabama, thus the students of Athens receive instruction from some of the best-qualified teachers in the State of Alabama.Funded primarily through state and local tax dollars, Athens City Schools annual budget is approximately 26.1 million dollars. The State of Alabama provides 15.1 million with local tax dollars providing the balance.
