Established in 1834, the Lower Merion School District consists of six elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools. The schools offer programs for special needs and gifted students as well as high school honors and AP classes. In addition to core classes, music, technology and art courses are offered. Co-curricular activities include athletic, community outreach and academic programs.
Pleasanton Middle School was built in 1990 and is a California Distinguished School. It has about 1,100 students each year and has a wide variety of academic programs, extra-curricular activities and support services for it's students.
Among it's programs are Math Skills, Academic Assistance and Reading Improvement classes for students who need extra help.
Pleasanton Middle School is located in central Pleasanton, close to downtown and the city's historical areas. The principal is John Whitney and the school's mascot is the Panther.
