Fred Williamsons winemaking experience dates back to 2009, when he began volunteering at Jaffurs Wine Cellars’ winery in Santa Barbara. He learned from Craig Jaffurs, through processing incoming grapes and handling the juice, about the extra steps that can be taken to improve the quality of wine. After many years of helping at the winery, he was ready to try making wine at home. Although small in quantities, the quality of his homemade wines prompted Fred to pursue winemaking on a larger scale. We opened Rivahil Winery Tasting Room at 2901 Grand Ave. #C in Los Olivos in 2018. Considering all the varietals and range in quantity, we will produce no more than 200 cases of any one specific wine, with a total production of about 1,000 cases in 2016. This keeps within the plan for Rivahil Winery to produce a very boutique, small production, quality wine. Much of how our wines are made is based on natural winemaking techniques, including the use of gravity-fed wine processing. Although nowadays there are some very good pumps that are quite gentle on grape juice and must, we prefer to move all of our wine by gravity throughout the fermenting, barreling, and bottling processes. Freds focus has been primarily on the red southern Rhône varietals, including Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. More recently, he has begun to make southern Rhône whites, including Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Viognier. He is venturing into Burgundian varietals with the 2016 harvest by introducing Chardonnay into the lineup of offerings. We at Rivahil Winery are focused on making wines from the local terroir along Californias Central Coast. Whether it’s cooler terrain like the Santa Rita Hills and Los Alamos, or warmer areas like Ballard, Foxen and Happy Canyons, each place has distinct microclimates that affect the fruit produced by the different varietals. We are devoted to making wines that highlight the locations of these vineyards, and all of our current wines are made from grapes grown within only a handful of miles from the winery in Buellton.

FLICKERWOOD WINE CELLARS The most wonderful thing about Flickerwood Wine Cellars is that it is an entirely family built and operated business, with all members of Ron & Sue Zampognas immediate family playing major roles. Ron has been an amateur winemaker for over 30 years, perfecting several blends of wine from Native American and French hybrid grapes. He feels winemaking is part of his Italian heritage that should be continued and passed along to future Zampogna generations. The natural skill and knowledge that he possesses is very evident to everyone who has sampled his wine. After retiring from the U.S. Forest Service in December of 1998, with 36 years of service, he has begun a second career as winemaker and manager at Flickerwood Wine Cellars. Located on property that fronts the home of Rick & Sharon Zampogna, construction started on the winery at the end of October, 1999. Ron and Sues two sons Rick and Tim, both first class carpenters, spent the winter building the winery. The wine cellar is 12 feet high and holds a variety of size tanks that ferment and store the wine until it is ready for bottling. As soon as they could close in the wine cellar, and pass all the inspections, the first vintage of juice was put into the tanks. While the wine making process was taking place all winter, the rest of the facility was built around the wine cellar. Located in a beautiful country setting, the winery gift shop and wine tasting area are warm, welcoming, and inviting to those who enter the front door, including the physically challenged. Decorated with knotty pine walls, cathedral ceilings, a grape motif, and using burgundy and forest green to accent the areas, the Zampognas want everyone to feel at ease and at home. The beautiful hand crafted wine tasting bar will make the experience of tasting wine an enjoyable one. After opening the winery with four varieties of wine, we now have 21 delicious Flickerwood Wine Cellars Wine to offer our customers, including sweet, semi-sweet, semi-dry and dry table wines, in reds, whites & blushes.

From the FAY Outlook & Visitor Center, to the Estate Vineyards, to the underground caves, a visit to Stags Leap Wine Cellars is a must-see feast for the eyes as well as the palate. The FAY Outlook & Visitor Center uses plenty of glass to let in natural light and take advantage of the stunning views of the estate vineyards and the Stags Leap Palisades. It allows you to witness the changes the seasons and climate have on our vines in a way that has never been seen before. Just inside the entrance to our Napa Valley wine caves lies the Great Room, a stunning space that glows with the light of hammered copper sconces and shimmering quartzite floors. In the caves there are over 34,000 square feet of tunnels capable of housing 6,000 barrels. At the center of the cave network is the Round Room, where a Foucault pendulum, one of only about fifty in the world, is suspended from the ceiling and marks the passing of time, and the aging of wine.
