The Eton Academy, located next to St. Columban Church on Melton Road, is a nationally awarded school designed to educate students with reading, attention and other learning challenges. The school includes students from first grade through 12th grade, and features a research-based curriculum as well as specialized support.
All Eton teachers are trained in Dr. Mel Levine's schools attunded neurodevelopmental approach to instruction, with the academic curriclum based in personalized instruction, a focus on literarcy and student development, and social and emotional support. Teachers and classrooms are eqipped with the latest technology to help students learn, includng SmartBoards and Phonic Ear.
Students also take classes in physical education, music and art, and can also participate in athletics. The school is tuition-based, and students must go through a formal application process for admission.
As one of eight elementary schools in the Birmingham Public School District, Harlan Elementary is located off N. Adams Rd. in Bloomfield Hills and serves one-eighth of the 3,685 elementary-age students in the district.
From kindergarten through 5th grade, students take classes in art, music and physical education, as well as core academic subjects. Students begin receiving Spanish instruction in the 3rd grade. Students can pick up Band and Orchestra in the 5th grade, and students can also participate in community service activities throughout the year.
Care options for busy parents include Kids Club, with care service offered before and after school. All elementary schools in the Birmingham Public School District come equipped with gymnasiums, separate cafeterias and a stage.
