The Alameda Community Learning Center is a public charter school housed at Encinal High School and serving students from grades 6 to 12. The ACLC was established in 1992 in partnership with Arthur Anderson Consulting. In 1997, it became a charter school and now serves approximately 250 students. The ACLC's aim is to "create a dynamic learning community by embodying the best practices of teaching and learning in a non-competitive manner that supports individuals to actively discover their own potential, recognize their own value and worth and practice responsibility to the community." At the ACLC, teachers are called facilitators and students are called learners. Learners gain admittance to the award-winning school through a lottery.

Will C. Wood Middle School, located just one block from the San Francisco Bay, shares boundaries with Lum Elementary and Rittler Park, home of the Alameda's Little League. Wood has a strong base of parent support, including volunteers who work in the classrooms, chaperon field trips, raise funds, and support campus beautification efforts. In 2009, Wood scored a 6 out of 10 on California's Academic Performance Index, and a 3 out of 10 on the similar schools API.

Get on the waiting list a year early for this small, nonprofit preschool, serving ages 3-5.

Schedule options vary with the age of the child.  Three-year-olds attend five mornings per week, from 9am - noon.  Four-year-olds and five-year olds can attend the full day (9am - 2:30pm), or just afternoons (noon - 2:30pm). From 9am - 1pm, there is a maximum of 30 children, with 3 to 5 teachers. From 1pm - 2:30pm, there is a maximum of 20 children with 3 teachers.

The Seedling Child does not provide extended care. 

Upon their 8:45am arrival, children have free time until 9:15am "Rug Time," which features phonics, singing, read-aloud and calendar.  Then comes snack and outdoor play (or a special weekly program such as music or perceptual motor fitness) until 10:15am.  An hour-long indoor play period follows, with "Rug Time" and Spanish from 11:30am until noon.  Afternoons comprise a cognitive-based kindergarten-readiness program.

All teachers at The Seedling Child have a bachelor's degree; half have a teaching credential.  The average teacher tenure is 8 years.

Children with special needs are enrolled on a case-by-case basis.

The Alameda Violin School offers music education for adults and children 3 years old and up. Violin, viola, music fundamentals, music theory and keyboard skills are taught here. Tuition includes 47 lessons per year, as well as mini-recitals, group classes and at least one formal recital per year. Instructor Caitlin Keen is a certified member of the Music Teachers Association of California.

Allstar Academics is a nonprofit afterschool educational program operated from inside Twin Towers Methodist. They offer programs for children from kindergarten through eighth grade, both during the school year and during the summer, that focus on athletic recreation, reading and math as well as arts and crafts. Allstar Academics emphasizes parental involvement, measurable educational milestones, homework assistance and academic enrichment. For the convenience of parents with multiple children and busy schedules, the program follows the AUSD schedule and enrollment is organized for 12-week periods.
