This U.S.-certified sailing school is charmingly situated at the Marina Village Yacht Harbor along the Oakland Estuary. Founded in 2004 as a partnership between the Alameda Unified School District and the College of Alameda and funded by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, the Alameda Science and Technology Institute is an Early College High School. Students enroll in community college courses in their junior and senior years and can earn an associate's degree while in high school. In 2010, ASTI was chosen as one of the best high schools in America by US News and World Report and awarded a bronze medal, the highest award for a school of its size and type. Admission to ASTI, which is housed at the College of Alameda, is competitive and based on academic achievement and motivation as well as critical thinking and community involvement. Students do not need to be Alameda residents to attend ASTI.
The Children's Learning Center is a state-certified private school for children with special needs. Founded in 1971, the Children's Learning Center serves children between kindergarten and 12th grade. The mission of the Children's Learning Center is to provide a comprehensive educational program to children who need more support than the public schools can offer.

The College of Alameda, located on Alameda's West End, is one of four colleges in the Peralta Community College District, which includes Berkeley City College and Oakland's Laney and Merritt Colleges. Founded in 1968, the College of Alameda is a two-year college offering classes in all major academic disciplines as well as a range of vocational programs including dental assisting, transportation technology, computer information systems, aviation maintenance and apparel design and merchandising. Academic and vocational counseling services are available to all students as well as financial assistance, tutoring, health services and job placement. At COA, students can earn an associate's degree or certificate from one of many programs or fulfill lower-division university general education requirements in preparation for transfer to the California State University, the University of California, or private four-year colleges.
Columbia College is a private, liberal arts and science college offering associate and bachelor's degrees at 34 campuses nationwide. Columbia College - Coast Guard Island primarily serves military personnel and their families. With 18 campuses on military bases, Columbia College courses are taught in eight-week sessions in the evening. Sessions begin in August, October, January, March and June. There are no admissions tests or pre-admittance interviews. Columbia College-Coast Guard Island's degree programs include general studies, business administration, criminal justice and psychology.
