The Norman J. Levy Lakeside Elementary School is affiliated with the Merrick Union Free School District. The school is located in Merrick, N.Y., and has an enrollment of more than 720 students. It offers an extensive curriculum for students in grades kindergarten through six. It offers a wide range of subjects, including English, language arts, reading and writing skills, mathematics, social studies and physical education. In addition, the school offers art education, music and computer technology. It also houses a fully equipped library with a huge collection of books, reference materials, computer software, videos, magazines and maps. The elementary school also encourages all students to become active life long readers through its library. In addition, the Norman J. Levy Lakeside Elementary School provides various learning support and transitional kindergarten programs.

The Bellmore-Merrick district serves students in the Merrick, North Merrick, Bellmore and North Bellmore communities. It was first established in 1934, and the current name was adopted in 1973.

Students complete their grades K-6 education in the four elementary school districts before attending Grand Avenue or Merrick Avenue Middle School. From there, it's on to Calhoun, Bellmore JFK or Mepham High Schools. The district also offers the Meadowbrook Alternative Program, geared toward students who have a difficult time succeeding in a large traditional school setting.

Advance placement courses are offered in every academic area, and gifted students may take part in the interdisciplinary Honors Program. A wide range of electives are available to students, as well. SmartBoard technology is available in most classrooms.

Programs that are offered to high school students include: Project Lead the Way, Senior Experience and Virtual Enterprise. Each high school has a Sports Boosters Club, PTA and there is a district drama program. Nearly 6,100 students attend the various schools in the district. The superintendent of schools is Dr. Henry Kiernan, and Nina Lanci is the president of the board of education.

The district consists of three elementary schools: Camp Avenue, Harold D. Fayette and Old Mill Road. Graduates then move to the middle and high schools in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.  The administrative office is located adjacent to Fayette. 

Originally known as district number 29, it was established in 1921. The current name was adopted in 1972. Each school has a PTA and offers ESL along with psychological and social work services. The WINGS program is available for gifted students.

For a minimal fee, there is a summer recreation program, held on site at the schools. The district uses the Connect-ED system to alert parents in case of emergency. The superintendent is David Feller.
