It takes a large fleet of vehicles to keep all 122 square miles of Athens-Clarke County running on a daily basis. Athens-Clarke County vehicles include police cars, leisure services trucks and traffic engineering vehicles. The Fleet Management Division of the Traffic Engineering department keeps these and other vehicles running, safe and ready to serve Athens-Clarke County citizens.
The Stone Mountain Police Department is in the old train depot on Main Street, along with City Hall. The department has 21 officers and six support employees.
The department is community-oriented and offers a house watch while residents are away. Officers also help set up neighborhoods watches.

Winder's public works department, under the direction of Ken Chalker, is comprised of a street division and a solid waste division. Its shares its headquarters with the water and gas departments.
The street division is responsible for maintaining safe, well-lit roads and parks, as well as collecting leaves, limbs, metal and household items for disposal. The solid waste division is responsible for the collection, disposal and recycling of waste materials for more than 4,000 homes and businesses. It handles almost 10,000 tons of solid waste, including 250 tons of recyclables materials, each year.
