The Palmetto Poison Center is a poison control center serving the state of South Carolina. The center is a cooperative effort of the University of South Carolina s College of Pharmacy and the Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. It provides free-of-charge information on exposure to poisonous materials for the general public and health care professionals. The center offers information related to accidental and intentional ingestion of poisonous substances and medications to adverse drug effects, occupational exposures, envenomations and biochemical disasters. It also provides first aid information for swallowed poisons, eye contamination, inhalation of gases and skin exposure. The Palmetto Poison Center maintains a staff of health care professionals, pharmacists and nurses. It operates a central poison control information facility and multiple hospital treatment sites throughout South Carolina. The Palmetto Poison Center is associated with the American Association of Poison Centers. It is located in Columbia, S.C.
