Formed in 1948, Society for Ethical Culture offers a wide variety of religious and educational programs for the community. Its program for children and young adults includes moral education, community building, social action, celebration and ethical identity. Its program, Special Knitting Forces is an organization that is dedicated to bring comfort to civilians during wartime focusing on babies and children. The society also operates a gay and lesbian organization that provides a social network for homosexuals, organizes social and political events of interest, and develops an outreach and educational program for the community to promote inclusiveness and understanding. The society also offers services, including community music, mediation, Sunday school for children, community announcements and group ethical exploration. Society for Ethical Culture is located in Bronx, N.Y.

The Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County is a chapter of the American Ethical Union. Established in 1953, the society is a progressive humanist community that accepts members of all backgrounds and encourages them to reach for their full potential. Led by Dr. Joseph Chuman, the society hosts Sunday "Platform Talks," youth education, study groups and other programs.

The Ethical Culture Society of Essex County is part of the American Ethical Union and takes as its guiding principle: "our highest human ideal is to act so as to elicit the best in others and thus ourselves." A main focus of the members is exploring philosophical and current questions of the day. 

The Essex County chapter, located at Prospect and Parker since 1951, has a had several leaders over the course of its history. Presently, the lay leadership is presiding at the weekly platform presentations and at special events. Boe Meyerson and Jim White are Leaders Emeriti.  Jim White now serves as Leader at another Ethical Culture Society in Riverdale, NY.
