This friendly little pizza shop has been in business for nearly a half-century and came under new ownership in 2004. Savory aromas eminate from the storefront, drawing in both regular clientèle and Newton Center foot traffic. Owner Pir Khan takes pride in the wide variety of pizzas and subs he offers and says he is glad to be a Newtonian. A favorite with Newton North high school students and local professionals, Newton Center Town Pizza does bustling lunch business. It is accessible via the Newton Center T-stop on the Green Line.
A local hot spot entering its fourth decade of business, Bill's serves some of the best and most interesting sandwiches and pizzas in Newton. Owner Dean Chronopoulos, who also serves as executive chef, knows many of the regular customers by name and oversees every aspect of the operation. He's also the chief supporter of Bill's Annual 5K Road Race, which earns money to support the Travis Roy Foundation. Bill's is expanding its seating, which will give patrons the opportunity to have a better view of the frequent musical acts and to better admire the local art on the walls. Family-owned and operated for a decade, Oak Hill Pizza is nestled in a small shopping plaza in Newton's Oak Hill residential neighborhood. Strictly a take-out restaurant, they have free delivery service. Buffalo chicken pizza and buffalo chicken subs are popular dishes. Also popular are chicken cutlet subs, meatball subs and Hawaiian pineapple pizza. In addition to pizza and subs, they serve a surprisingly large variety of panninis, wraps, salads and dinners. Oak Hill Pizza is immaculate. You could practically eat off the floor. There is a good selection of cold drinks and two coolers full of varieties of single-serve ice-cream. It's open 11 hours a day, seven days a week and accepts credit cards.
Pizza lovers beware. Once you've tried Sweet Tomatoes thin crust, Neopolitan-style pizza, you may never be able to have pizza anywhere else. The dough is dressed with the perfect amount of homemade sauce that contains fresh diced tomatoes. The attention to detail here, and the use of only the best ingredients, has helped put Sweet Tomatoes on top with one of the best pizza slices in town.
