Seneca Creek State Park offers a variety of trails for mountain biking and hiking, playgrounds and picnic areas for family time and scenic views of Clopper Lake. It extends for 14 miles, following Seneca Creek through Montgomery County to the Potomac River. The 90-acre lake offers fishing and boating, as well. Visitors can explore the area's history on a short self-guided tour, and there is a disc-golf course and hunting within the park.
The Severn Danza Park is one of the area's premiere locations for all things athletic, offering several lighted baseball and softball diamonds in addition to multi-purpose fields. Whether for a friendly pick-up softball game, a casual hike down the trail or a competitive adult soccer league game, the park is a great place to spend a weekend afternoon or weeknight. A concession stand is available for food and drinks. If you're seeking an alternative to the traditional athletic activity, the park also has an elite BMX race track hosted by Chesapeake BMX. The track contains ramps, jumps and a winding course, allowing extreme sports junkies to get their adrenaline fix.
Silver Rock Park has a football field, two softball fields and a volleyball court. It also has a grill and a picnic table, along with a playground.
The C&O Canal Great Falls Tavern is an historic site and visitors' center located on MacArthur Boulevard in Potomac. It offers various types of educational and interpretive programs throughout the year, as well as boat rides in the spring, summer and early fall. These include mule drawn canal boat rides, public canal boat rides and private boat rides.
Belair Swim & Racket Club, located in Bowie, Maryland, has seven landscaped acres, a pool and six tennis courts. The main pool has six 25-meter regulation racing lanes connected to a diving well with a 3-meter diving board and two 1-meter diving boards. There is also a large area for children with a waterslide. Carrs Wharf Park is a small fishing park at the end of Carrs Wharf Road. The park is administered by Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks. The road deadends where the unmarked park is situated along the Rhode River. A long pier allows anglers to fish, although a fishing license from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is required.
Covering 536 acres and including 11 miles of trails, this park is a highlight of Wheaton's outdoor resources. It has three main areas: Shorefield, Glenallan and Orebaugh. Shorefield, located at the end of Shorefield Road, features picnic areas, a miniature train and a carousel. Orebaugh is home to the Rubini Athletic Complex and the Wheaton Ice Arena, while Glenallan includes Brookside Gardens and a horse stable. The park has other facilities, such as tennis courts, and runs education programs.
This quiet park features a garden, paths, benches and a gazebo. It sits on the former site of the Gaithersburg Public Library, which was destroyed by a fire. The site was formerly known as Lee Street Park.
