Seneca Creek State Park offers a variety of trails for mountain biking and hiking, playgrounds and picnic areas for family time and scenic views of Clopper Lake. It extends for 14 miles, following Seneca Creek through Montgomery County to the Potomac River. The 90-acre lake offers fishing and boating, as well. Visitors can explore the area's history on a short self-guided tour, and there is a disc-golf course and hunting within the park.

Carrs Wharf Park is a small fishing park at the end of Carrs Wharf Road. The park is administered by Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks. The road deadends where the unmarked park is situated along the Rhode River. A long pier allows anglers to fish, although a fishing license from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is required.

Covering 536 acres and including 11 miles of trails, this park is a highlight of Wheaton's outdoor resources. It has three main areas: Shorefield, Glenallan and Orebaugh. Shorefield, located at the end of Shorefield Road, features picnic areas, a miniature train and a carousel. Orebaugh is home to the Rubini Athletic Complex and the Wheaton Ice Arena, while Glenallan includes Brookside Gardens and a horse stable. The park has other facilities, such as tennis courts, and runs education programs.

Nature Museum is located in Carriage House and features a variety of exhibits. The museum features a learning environment and provides educational opportunities. It has a collection of butterfly and moth eggs, rocks, minerals, fossils, seashells, games and habitat dioramas. Nature Museum serves various students and visitors. The museum is a part of the Cylburn Arboretum Association, which is a nonprofit organization that has more than 140 volunteers. Also known as CAA, the organization maintains gardens and trails in Baltimore. It sponsors cultural and fundraising events, such as Market Day and Chamber Music Series for children and adults. The Cylburn Arboretum Association has rooms that host meetings, receptions and workshops.
