Founded in 1978, Audobon Society of Rhode Island is headquartered in Smithfield, R.I. Riverbend Environmental Education Center's goal is to encourage teachers and parents to get students to appreciate and understand the environment through outdoor activities and programs.

The center reaches this goal by offering school programs, scout programs, camps, outreach programs, and nature clubs. Riverbend offers field trip opportunities to children in kindergarten up to 5th grade. Also, it offers summer camps in which kids are taught crafts, science experiments and are encouraged to explore nature.

It all began with a watercolor class led by Donna Pierce-Clark when one of her students, Marsha Elliott, asked to get together sometime just to paint for fun... not as teacher and students, but just friends. From that question, the group grew to 10 women who painted together at monthly paint-outs. The major focus was enjoying one anothers company, encouraging and learning from one another.This beautiful exhibit will feature the works of artists Sarah Bryant, Donna Clark, Marsha Elliot, Karen Fahey, Shirley Harbaugh, Pauline Persing, Jerri Smith, Carol Strayer, Ruth Ann Sturgill and Jeanne Wenrick, and will run through Sunday, September 19. Proceeds from the sale of these works of art will support Brukner Nature Centers mission of wildlife conservation through environmental education.any work that is considered to be inappropriate. 4+ miles of trails take visitors through 136 acres along the beautiful Shiawassee River. The Nature Center is open 9-4 on week days and during special events on nights and weekends. Visit our flock of chickens, or come into the center to see turtles, snakes, frogs, toads, fish and many animal mounts. The museum also maintains a collection of items related to the fields of entomology, mycology and paleontology representing the natural history of the Greater Niagara Region, as well as valuable materials for teaching, exhibition and research worldwide. It houses the Dr. Charles R. Drew Science Magnet Elementary School that offers specialized science education to more than 1,000 students.
