The AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center is a full service movie theater and arts center based in Silver Spring. The center offers a wide range of services including screening films, production work and educational programs among others. The facility houses numerous theaters and has the ability to screen 16 to 70mm and high-definition digital video. The center also has a large conference area and provides rentals for private events such as film celebrations or corporate events. The theater also has a café and concession stand and has a wide range of products including beer, coffee, tea and numerous candy choices such as M&M's, Twizzlers, Reese's Pieces, Raisinets, Milk Duds and Junior Mints among others. There are nine big screens at Bow-Tie Cinemas located in Harbour Center off Route 2/Solomons Island Road. The main ticket window is located curbside but tickets may also be purchased just inside the door at an automated kiosk or at the top of the stairs. Sign up for the free Criterion Club to get e-mail updates along with $6 movie tickets ($3 surcharge applies on 3-D flicks) and $5 large buckets of popcorn all day every Tuesday. The Olney Theatre Center is a local historical landmark that has been keeping audiences entertained since 1938 with a variety of shows. The theatre focuses on American works, the classics of Shakespeare, all- time favorite musicals and renditions as well as many other types of theatrical entertainment. You can catch new works, area premieres and even some high school talent. The Olney Theatre also holds summer intensive training for students.
