Consejo Counseling and Referral Services is a private, nonprofit organization, founded in 1978 to provide culturally competent mental health and family support services in western Washington. Its services focus on the Hispanic and Latino community. The company s clientele is approximately 95 percent Spanish-speaking. Consejo provides education, prevention, treatment and support services related to mental health, substance abuse and domestic violence. Consejo also operates two transitional housing programs, one for homeless/mentally ill patients and the other one for victims of domestic violence. New programs include a parenting education program for Spanish-speaking families, a literacy program for Spanish-speaking youths at risk of dropping out of school and increased services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
