Blessed Sacrament is a private Catholic school on Sunset Boulevard just a few blocks east of Highland Avenue, on the grounds of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, in an Italian Renaissance-style building. While schools officials recognize that parents have the primary responsibility to educate their children, the school offers a formal education that nurtures, supports and compliments the parents' training. Founded in 1913 by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart, it became a Jesuit-sponsored school in 1923. The school offers a computer program in all grades, and two technology labs were completely refurbished and re-equipped in 2010.
Situated in a white house with a well manicured front lawn at the end of a dead-end street sits the Maimonides Academy, an Orthodox Sephardic Jewish school that teaches kindergarten through eighth grade. The school focuses on general studies, critical thinking and the Jewish faith, incorporating its heritage into the teachings. The academy prides itself on providing a warm, safe and engaging environment for children to learn and grow before moving on to high school.
