The Akron Childrens Hospital Adolescent Medicine team is specially trained in caring for the range of medical, social, emotional, sexual, educational and nutritional concerns that are common in individuals from puberty through 23 years of age. Our care focuses on respecting individuality; supporting physical and emotional growth and development; and educating and empowering teens to ultimately take ownership of their health care and life decisions. We also help manage adolescent issues related to chronic medical conditions. Common health issues we treat include: - Acne - Eating disorders - Menstrual problems - Sexually transmitted diseases Adolescent Medicine offers the Center for Gender-Affirming Medicine for transgender and LGBTQ+ youth. Our multidisciplinary team offers pubertal suppression, gender-affirming hormones, mental health care coordination, and supportive care for patients and their families.
Pediatric specialists from Akron Childrens Hospital treat pediatric inpatients, cover high-risk deliveries, provide the initial newborn visit and operate a special care nursery at Wooster Community Hospital.
The Neonatal Follow-up Program addresses the special needs of your NICU baby and family. Medical specialists will periodically analyze your childs growth and development, furnishing the evaluation results to your pediatrician or primary care physician. The first follow-up visit will be held when your child is three months of age and will continue until age 3.

Akron Childrens Hospital operates a Level II special care nursery at Wooster Community Hospital. This level of care is for babies whose mothers go into labor before full term (at or less than 32 weeks gestation) but do not require a high-risk delivery center or Level III neonatal intensive care unit.
