The consolidated human services agency acts as a single department under the county manager, receiving counsel and policy direction from a 24-member human services board of directors. Wake County Human Services also provides various child and family services, such as adoption and foster care, child mental health and educational and medical assistance programs. It also offers court services, case management, financial arrangements, school-based substance abuse treatment, emergency services, immunization programs, maternal and infant health programs, and pediatric developmental surveillance.
