Dr. Lanier Jackson graduated from Wake Forest University in 2004 and completed medical school at the Medical College of Georgia in 2008. He went on to complete his pediatric residency at the University of Virginia and his pediatric cardiology fellowship training at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed sub-specialty training in pediatric electrophysiology at the Medical University of South Carolina and pursued additional training at Boston Childrens Hospital. He joined the MUSC faculty in 2014. He is board certified in pediatric cardiology as well as adult congenital heart disease.

Dr. Bhavadharini Ramu joined MUSC in 2016 as assistant professor, specializing in advanced heart failure and heart transplantation. After receiving her medical degree from Stanley Medical College in India, she completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut. She stayed on to complete her cardiology fellowship, including a year as chief cardiology fellow at the Hartford Hospital, University of Connecticut program. She was presented with the outstanding service as chief cardiology fellow award in recognition of her service during her fellowship. She subsequently completed a fellowship in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation at the University of Minnesota., Dr. Ramu’s clinical expertise includes advanced heart failure, in particular, the care of patients before and after heart transplantation and left ventricular assist devices (LVAD), peripartum cardiomyopathy, echocardiography, pulmonary hypertension, and cardio-oncology., Dr. Ramu is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. She is also a member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and American Heart Association. Her research interests include the role of echocardiography in advanced heart failure, right-sided heart failure, and cardio-oncology., Dr. Ramu strongly believes in a team approach in caring for her patients and enjoys spending time educating patients and their families, to ensure the best possible outcome.

After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with high honors in biochemistry, Dr. Ryan Tedford attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). He completed his internal medicine training, including an additional year as an assistant chief of service, cardiology fellowship, and advanced heart failure and transplant training, at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He joined the faculty in 2011, and was promoted to associate professor after just five years. He is board certified in cardiovascular diseases and advanced heart failure and transplantation, and has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association. He previously served as the medical director of mechanical circulatory support and director of cardiovascular hemodynamics at Johns Hopkins until he was recruited to be the chief of heart failure and medical director of cardiac transplantation at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. , Dr. Tedford is an internationally recognized clinical researcher and has published over 100 peer-reviewed original research manuscripts, invited expert reviews, editorials, and book chapters. His research efforts are focused on hemodynamic assessment of the right ventricle function and its interaction with the pulmonary circulation and left heart. This research spans the fields of pulmonary hypertension, left heart disease, exercise physiology, systemic sclerosis, and mechanical circulatory support. He has also served as the site principal investigator for multiple clinical trials including the NIH-sponsored Heart Failure Clinical Trial Network. He participates on several scientific advisory boards, clinical trial steering committees, and serves as a hemodynamic core laboratory for clinical pharmaceutical trials. , Dr. Tedford is a regular invited faculty lecturer at national and international scientific meetings, peer reviewer for numerous journals, and serves on the editorial board for Circulation: Heart Failure and JACC: Heart Failure. He has accepted organizational leadership roles working on the program planning committees for the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and the Heart Failure Society of American and was an invited task force member of the 2018 World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension. Dr. Tedford is a dedicated educator, regularly participating in the teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows as well as lecturing at national and international continuing medical education events.

Dr. Eric Powers is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is the director of the acute coronary syndrome center and medical director of the cardiology inpatient progressive care unit. His clinical interests are invasive, interventional and general cardiology., Dr. Powers is a graduate of Harvard Medical School. He did his internal medicine and cardiology training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Prior to moving to the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Powers was on the faculty and director of the cardiac catheterization laboratories at Columbia University in New York and subsequently at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia., Dr. Powers’ research career has involved both laboratory and clinical research. Areas of research have included acute myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndromes, interventional cardiology, vascular biology, congestive heart failure and valvular heart disease., Dr. Powers has coauthored over one hundred peer-reviewed publications. He is a member of a number of professional societies including the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions. Dr. Powers has served on research and educational committees for these organizations and has served as an editorial consultant for a number of medical journals. He has served on an NIH study section and grant review panels for the American Heart Association and NASA., Dr. Powers has received a number of teaching, community and clinical awards and has been named as one of America’s Top Doctors and one of the Best Doctors in America.

Dr. Sanford Zeigler is an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at MUSC, and Medical Director of the MUSC Cardiovascular ICU. He serves in the MUSC Aortic Center as Director of Thoracic Aortic Surgery., A native South Carolinian, Dr. Zeigler graduated from the University of the South with a B.A. in English Literature and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He attended medical school at MUSC as a James B. Edwards Scholar, and then completed his integrated cardiothoracic surgery residency at the Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California. , During his training, Dr. Zeigler operated at the Stanford University Medical Center, the Palo Alto VA hospital, Oakland Children’s Hospital, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, and the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. During his training, he studied under some of the giants of cardiac and thoracic surgery, and developed a unique skill set for treated aortic aneurysms and dissectios with both open and endovascular approaches., Dr. Zeigler treats adults with both acquired and congenital heart and aortic disease, including coronary artery disease, aortic and mitral valve lesions, aortic dissection, and aortic aneurysms. He has a particular interest in aortic valve repair, aortic dissection, and surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation.

Dr. Luke Schroeder graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 2007, earning his degree in biology, and completed medical school training at the University of Minnesota in 2011. Afterwards, he completed pediatric residency at the University of Minnesota in 2014 and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. He did an additional year of training in the cardiac intensive care unit on a T32 research grant. He achieved American Board of Pediatrics certification in 2014. , Dr. Schroeder joined the MUSC faculty in 2018 as a pediatric cardiac intensivist and is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics. His areas of special interest remain in cardiac critical care — specifically heart failure/transplant management in the ICU setting, mechanical circulatory support including ventricular assist devices, and quality improvement.,

Dr. Jason Buckley graduated from Cornell University in 2003 and completed medical school at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 2008. He went on to complete both his pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship training at the Medical University of South Carolina. He pursued additional training in pediatric cardiac intensive care and joined the MUSC faculty as a cardiac intensivist in 2015. Since joining the faculty, Dr. Buckley has led several efforts dedicated to improving the care of children with heart disease including implementation of a cardiac “early warning score” and development of the pediatric cardiac medical emergency team (MET). He facilitates in situ simulated team training (“mock codes”) designed to improve communication and performance during cardiac emergencies such as arrhythmia and cardiac arrest., Dr. Buckley’s academic interests include improving perioperative care, fostering patient/family engagement, and collaborating with other institutions to learn from high performers. He is the site clinical champion for MUSC’s participation in the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4) – a multi-institution collaborative that promotes transparent sharing of data, quality improvement, and dissemination of best practices. Dr. Buckley recently led a multicenter study supported by PC4 that seeks to improve our understanding and management of chylothorax after pediatric cardiac surgery. He is currently collaborating with researchers at other hospitals to better understand early childhood outcomes after repair of truncus arteriosus.

Dr. Daniel Judge is a professor of medicine in cardiology at MUSC. He received his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania, and did his post-graduate training in internal medicine, cardiology, and advanced heart failure/transplant cardiology at Johns Hopkins. He is board-certified in both cardiology and advanced heart failure/transplant cardiology., Dr. Judge takes care of adult patients with inherited forms of cardiovascular disease, as well as congestive heart failure. As director of the cardiovascular genetics program, Dr. Judge has extensive experience caring for individuals and families with inherited forms of cardiomyopathy, aortic aneurysm, amyloidosis, and cardiac involvement from other genetic conditions., He has authored more than 150 scientific manuscripts.

Dr. Varsha Bandisode graduated from the University of Georgia undergraduate program in 1991 and completed her medical school training at Mercer University School of Medicine in 1995. She went on to complete her pediatric residency training at Jackson Memorial Hospital at the University of Miami in 1998. She completed her training in pediatric cardiology and further specialized training in pediatric interventional catheterization at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2002. She joined the faculty at MUSC as an assistant professor in pediatric cardiology and was promoted to associate professor in 2010. She became the director of the Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Lab in 2005 and continues to advance the services of the catheterization lab in that role. , Dr. Bandisode has advanced the care provided by MUSCs pediatric cardiac cath lab to include trans-catheter repair of ASDs, PDAs, and VSDs as well as other anomalies, trans-catheter enlargement of narrowed vessels including coarctation of the aorta, pulmonary artery stenosis, and narrowing of major veins, and trans-catheter replacement of pulmonary valves. Her interests lie in the care and treatment of all congenital heart disease in infants, children, and adults. She has special interests in diagnostic and interventional catheterization treatment of heart disease and other complex cardiac disease.
