The Riverside County Fire Department is one of the largest, regional fire service organizations in California. It has responded to more than 110,000 incidents. The department is staffed with over 950 career and nearly 1,100 volunteer personnel. The Riverside County Fire Department serves approximately 2 million residents in an area of more than 7,000 square miles. Its service area includes the cities of Banning, Beaumont, La Quinta, Temecula and Indio in California, as well as the Rubidoux Community Services District. The department provides emergency medical, rescue, and fire prevention and suppression services. The Riverside County Fire Department conducts annual vacant parcel inspections and responds to urban and wildland emergency conditions. Its inventory includes a helicopter, water tenders, fire crew vehicles, mobile training vans, trucks, and paramedic, incident command, breathing support, lighting and power supply units, as well as structural, rural and brush engines. The department is the Operational Area Coordinator (OAC) for the California Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System for various fire service jurisdictions in Riverside County. The Riverside County Fire Department operates over 90 fire stations in nearly 15 battalions. In addition, it maintains CAL FIRE, which is a wildland fire protection agency that is responsible for the prevention of approximately 30 million acres of private and state lands in California.
