The Consumer Protection Division is administered by the County of Santa Clara in California. It monitors and protects a range of basic human needs, including safe food, water and sewage disposal. The division offers food safety programs that focus on all retail food facilities in the county to ensure a safe food supply. The Consumer Protection Division surveys restaurants, markets, bakeries, liquor stores, bars, catering trucks, hot dog carts, ice cream parlors, produce vehicles, food vending machines and eatery services at fairs and festivals. It provides disaster preparedness information to the public regarding the safe storage of emergency food and water supplies, as well as the safe disposal of sewage following a catastrophic event. The division investigates the complaints of excessive noise from commercial and residential sources within unincorporated areas of the county. The Consumer Protection Division additionally offers housing services and issues smoking ordinances.
