Entertainment Publications was founded by Detroiters in 1962 to help locals save money through coupon books. Over the decades, the company has grown and expanded to reach other states. Today it offers daily online coupons and other savings publications.
The Dexter Senior Center provides a host of services for those age 55 and older. The center hosts social gatherings, recreational activities, daily congregate, home-delivered meals and other events. It is also home to the local Meals on Wheels program.
Wigs 4 Kids recently moved into its new Wellness Center and Salon to better help provide wigs to children who are suffering hair loss. Founder Maggie Varney is available to show children how their wigs will be placed on their heads. Children who have been treated by Wigs 4 Kids, have had some form of cancer, alopecia and trichotillomania.
Grace Community Church is located at the corner of Moross and the service drive to I-94, and draws in a congregation from all over Grosse Pointe and the surrounding areas. Grace offers extensive youth programs, child care, and Bible study groups.
Community Sports Park is located on the west side of Keith Rd., between Commerce and Willow roads. Keith Elementary School is its neighbor to the south. The park features three ball fields, the Jeff Raben Soccer Field, and tennis courts. There is also a picnic shelter and restroom building. Each summer, Community Sports Park serves as the home of the West Bloomfield Senior Softball teams that play in the Oakland County Senior League. Adult softball teams also play at the park during the summer.
Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church is located across from East Middle School. The central focus of worship for the Orthodox Church is the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist. The Church offers a youth group called the Greek Orthodox Youth of America. It also has a women's group called Philoptochos, meaning friend of the poor. The Church offers bible study and faith enrichment classes. Sunday services are held at 10am.
Once completed, the Conservancy is responsible for the improvement, operations, maintenance and programming of the Detroit International Riverfront in perpetuity.
The vision of Detroits transformed Riverfront is clearly becoming reality. However, support is still needed to complete the project and to deliver the world class Riverfront that Detroit has always deserved. The Conservancy is underway with a $140 million capital campaign, which will provide the necessary funding to design and build a new public space, as well as permanently maintain, operate and program the Riverfront for the public.
