The First Presbyterian Church of Troy has been a part of the Troy community for years. Its founding go as far back as the 1920s, and the denomination as a whole played a key part in the lives of the early American revolutionaries. They participate avidly in this tradition, but also strive to improve and move over the years into a malleable identity that remains culturally relevant.
For over a century, St. John's Episcopal Church has served the residents of Royal Oak. Now in its second century, this church is noted for its beautiful stained glass and progressive attitudes toward people of all walks of life. With a nursery, resale shop and emergency food pantry, St. John's Episcopal Church offers many services to the people of Royal Oak.
This center offers adoption services. It provides placement assessments, home studies and document verification.
Located on the north side of Walnut Lake Road just east of Halsted Road, St. Thomas has served Metro Detroit's 120,000-strong Chaldean community since 1992 before moving in to its current home in 1998. Led by pastor Frank Kalabat, the church offers masses in Chaldean, Arabic and English and features a beautiful grotto on the north side of the area used for prayer and reflection.
The church is active with the Chaldean Federation and the Chaldean-American Ladies of Charity in the Adopt-a-Refugee charity program and the Helping Hands program to help those in need internationally and locally.
The Grosse Pointe Woods branch of the public library is located on Mack Avenue. The library offers much more than books, such as audiobooks, movies, music, classic book lectures, outreach services, book clubs, ten advisory board, kids' corner, help with homework, gaming web site, anime club and rooms that can be rented. In addition, the library has an online catalog that can be accessed from home.
Cavalry Baptist Church has been active in the community for more than 75 years. The church is located on the south side of Joy Road, between Lilly and Morton Taylor roads. Aside from Sunday services, there are a variety of group sessions, including bible fellowships, children's classes and a nursery. A live band performs both modern and traditional spiritual music for Sunday services.
Yad Ezra is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting impoverished Jewish families through the delivery of free kosher groceries and health-care items. Established in 1990, the organization is Michigan's only kosher food pantry and provides support to more than 1,600 families each month. In addition, Yad Ezra provides the needy with specialty items for the various Jewish holidays.
Faith Bible Presbyterian Church is a Bible-believing and Christ-honoring church. The church was founded by Pastor John C. Mills in 1970. The church organizes home Bible study every other Friday. The Sunday services are at three different times and there is a big parking at the rear end of the building.
The Costick Activities Center provides a home for the City of Farmington Hills Cultural Arts Division, Recreation Division, Senior Adults Division and Youth & Family Services Program offices, as well as activities hosted by all those programs. The Center hums with activity daily, from swimming lessons in the pool and after-school programs, to activities for senior adults and meetings or events held in comfortable, well-appointed rental rooms. The City Gallery, in the Costick Center lobby, features artworks by local residents.
