Since it was founded in 1999, Stumptown Coffee Roasters has earned a devoted following due to its careful preparation of French press coffee and espresso drinks. The company, which consists of a roastery and several caf locations in downtown Portland, Ore., is known for roasting its coffee by hand in small batches. Customers can choose from Latin American, African or Indonesian beans or Stumptown s house blends. The company also offers organic coffee that is grown without any fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides, making it better for the environment and the workers who pick the beans. Stumptown has a thriving wholesale program, which supplies coffee to more than 150 restaurants, cafes and offices. Stumptown Coffee Roasters has garnered recognition from Roast Magazine as the 2006 Roaster of the Year and Food and Wine Magazine as the Best Boutique Roaster.
