American Legion Post 86 is the Rockville post of the American Legion, a non-profit verteran's organization. The organization exists to support veterans and those active in the military, as well as its community. This post hosts a variety of events and programs throughout the year to give back to the community and to those who serve, or have served, our country.
Founded in 1935, the Progress Club was incorporated in Washington, DC. It is a fraternal organization that is currently run by Steven Sachs. It hosts a number of activities such as bingo night.
Wheaton Woods Swimming Pool services the neighbors of Aspen Hill Park, Wheaton Woods, Rolling Hills, Brookhaven, Robindale and Harmony Hills.
Membership per family is a single annual fee, and is not transferable. Membership is for unlimited access all summer.
The 82- by 42-square-foot pool, on five acres of land, opened in 1957 with 350 members after raising $75,000 for construction. Originally, the pool was opposed by some residents living close to the pool believed it would result in property values being depreciated.
Club Joola is a premier table tennis club with a mission to turn young people into top players.
Club Joola offers table tennis lessons and team practices for players of all ages and is home to a Junior Table Tennis Team that features Junior Olympic champions.
The leadership for the Junior Team program is a cooperative effort, including a Head Coach, a Junior Captain representing the players, and a Parent Captain representing the parents.
Club Joola hosts leagues, tournaments, summer camps and "ping pong socials" throughout the year. The club also provides structured activities throughout the week, including afternoon study halls.
Washington Apple Pi is an Apple and Macintosh users group that offers training, bulletin boards and information exchanges. Historically, Apple Pi organized as a nonprofit social club in 1981 and the group began to meet every Tuesday to complete basic computer tasks and functions. Now, its weekly meeting continues with the group members helping other members with installation of memory and drives along with configured software and other technical support. In addition to social activities, the club publishes a journal and operates an online store that sells t-shirts, hats, calendars and gifts.
Manor Country Club is one of the region's premier clubs. Its grounds include 431 acres of rolling hills with water, foliage and trees, a 27-hole golf course, 10 tennis courts, two swimming pools and a clubhouse.
In the early days, Manor operated as an inn as well as a country club and housed many White House visitors. Weekend guests stayed on the third floor. Later, part of the property was subdivided so weekend cottages and year-round homes could be built.
This Lodge hosts a luncheon every day from 11am - 2pm for members and guests. The lodge also has a brunch on weekends, as well as Wii Bowling tournaments and seafood dinner nights. Sports fans can stop by to watch that week's big game while enjoying snacks in the bar area. It also features a deck overlooking the greens and a banquet hall. The lodge is located adjacent to the golf course.
