Since 1948, Walnut Creek Model Railroad Society members have built, maintained, shown and promoted model trains. These hobbyists created Diablo Valley Lines Railroad, a show-stopping HO scale model railroad display (train cars are about 6 to 11 inches long). The display is open to the public on designated days and features 4,300 feet of hand-laid track, steam locomotives, modern diesels, a narrow gauge logging road and mountains that rise to 10 feet. Woodlands Cabana Club is a family-oriented swim club that offers such amenities as two 25-yard pools with diving boards, lifeguards, a wading pool for non-swimmers, free Wi-Fi, hot showers, social events, swim school with lessons for swimmers of all skill levels, free water aerobics, lanes for lap swimming and more. The Cabana Club offers family memberships in addition to adult memberships and discounted memberships for seniors.
Club 1220 is home to a flourishing and proud LBGT community in Walnut Creek. Around since the 70s, this club knows the tricks necessary to keep people from having to cross the bridge to San Francisco, and instead enjoy a romping good time at Club 1220. Drag shows, Hot Mess Mondays, Country Music Nights, and Boyz Night Out are just a few of the events and themed nights that can be expected at Club 1220.
Since its establishment more than 14o years ago, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has grown to be a fraternal order with almost 1 million members meeting in more than 2,000 lodges across the nation. The order is a generous charitable foundation with a mission to serve the community. Elk members give millions of dollars each year in the form of youth scholarships, aid to veterans and other philanthropic endeavors. Members of the Walnut Creek Lodge #1811 range in age from 22 to 95 and are welcome to participate in the Lodge's bi-monthly meetings as well as a number of other sponsored activities, such as dinners, dances and RV travel events. Gerry Gouveia currently serves as the Exalted Ruler of Lodge 1811.
