The Apple Valley Parks and Recreation Department offices are housed in the Apple Valley Community Center. The department runs the city's community centers, parks, athletics complexes, golf courses and community recreation programs.
The University of Minnesota Extension Service is located in the Washington County Government Center and offers research and education in the areas of environment, food and agriculture, communities, families and youth. The extension service is a 100-year-old partnership between the University of Minnesota and the federal, state and county governments to provide scientific knowledge and expertise to the public.
The Shakopee Community Center is a local gathering spot equipped with a variety of fitness equipment, a gym, a walking track and meeting space. It is also houses the Shakopee Ice Arena, Enigma Teen Center and the Shakopee Skate Park. The Community Center, Rotary Room, Studio Room and gym are available for rent by calling the city. Annual and monthly memberships are available; non-members pay daily user fees.
