The Emporia Fire Department, operational for more than 130 years, offers a variety of fire rescue and prevention services. It is a nonprofit agency that serves residents and businesses and employs firefighters. The department maintains a fleet of engines and rescue vehicles. The department houses a variety of equipment, including ambulances, pumpers, grass rigs, rescue boats and utility pick-ups. The Emporia Fire Department also has a staff of paramedics. The department works to protect lives, properties and the environment from the threats and occurrences of emergencies. It provides training and educational programs in general safety, emergency response and lifesaving techniques. In addition, it undertakes fire investigations, reviews plans and conducts inspections.
