Located in Albany, Ga., the Sewer Division works under the Albany Public Works Department. It works to monitor, collect, convey, treat and dispose the wastewater in an environmentally sound and safe manner. The division is comprised of wastewater sampling and sewer maintenance sections. The Sewer Division is responsible for the maintenance of sanitary and storm sewers and the operation of waste water treatment plants and lift stations. It treats more than 30 million gallons water in a day. The division utilizes safe physical and biological treatment of sewage and proper disinfection of the final effluent prior to its discharge into the receiving stream. The Sewer Division also works to prevent the spread and multiplication of potential life threatening, disease causing bacteria.
