The Mystic Fire Department is a mostly volunteer department with stations at 34 Broadway Avenue and 52 New London Road. Mystic Hook & Ladder Company is on New London Road.

The fire department has a paid chief and deputy chief and about 40 volunteers. The department runs 24 hours, but has office hours at its Broadway Avenue location from 8am until 4pm.

Mystic Fire has five fire trucks including engines, a ladder truck and a rescue truck. Frank Hilbert is chief and fire marshal.

The Mystic Fire Department serves the towns of Groton and Stonington and is one of six volunteer fire departments in Stonington. The Department has two fire stations: B. F. Hoxie Engine Co. located on Broadway Avenue in Mystic, and Mystic Hook and Ladder Co., located on New London Road in Mystic. The Fire Department is happy to speak with anyone interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter.

The Old Mystic Fire District covers the Old Mystic part of Groton, and offers mutual aid to other fire departments that may need help. The department is a combination of about five career firefighters and 25 to 30 volunteers. The department has three engines as well as a tower ladder truck and a truck with heavy rescue equipment. Ken Richards Jr. is chief of the district.
