The Stege Sanitary District provides sanitary sewer services to El Cerrito, Kensington and a small part of Richmond. With a dedicated team of staff members committed to its function, the center collects and transports. The Board of Directors has five members who oversee the District's processes.
The Department of Sanitation is responsible for the disposition of all solid waste generated within the boundaries of the town; it oversees the disposal of an estimated 670,000 tons of garbage each year. What's not recycled is processed in a state-of-the-art waste-to-energy facility, creating both an environmental and economic benefit for all town residents.
Items that can be disposed of at 1600 Merrick Road include appliances, batteries, tires and other homeowner refuse (bring proof of residency). Grass and leaves are collected Wednesdays only. Visit the department's website for holiday collection schedules and information on the S.T.O.P. program, which allows residents to safely dispose of hazardous waste like paint, cleaners and solvents.
