Located in the Woodland Plaza in Vineyard Haven, Humphrey's Bakery is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. With locations in Edgartown and West Tisbury, this branch of Humphrey's is relatively new. Serving up coffee and excellent doughnuts in the early morning, Humphrey's also pleases late risers with salads, pizza and humongous sandwiches made on fresh, homemade bread. In addition to the usual array of cookies and baked treats, Humphrey's also offers eclairs and iced coffee.
Customers may also phone-in orders to go until 3pm daily. Please note that Humphrey's accepts only cash, so be sure to visit the ATM before you stop by.
Mary Ellen's has been a diner, doughnut shop, and most recently a Portuguese bakery. It is open daily and serves up some of the best no frills breakfast plates around. Its classic breakfast special includes, two eggs any style, home fries, meat, and its famous Portuguese toast for $5. Another favorite is the Portuguese 0melette with linguica, onions, Portuguese cheese, and your choice of Portuguese white bread, sweet bread, and deep fried potatoes or grilled potatoes with onions. At Mary Ellen's, you can expect excellent service and reasonable prices. Note, however, that it is a cash-only establishment.
Cake., (pronounced: "Cake period"), opened in 2009 and is located on Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington Center, across from the police station. This bakery specializes in cakes, including wedding cakes, custom cakes for any occasion and regular cakes. The shop quickly has become known for its wonderful and unique cupcakes. The most popular cupcake on the menu is The Minuteman. For a quick sugar fix, check out the mini cupcakes for just 75¢. The owner of Cake. picked Lexington because it is very family oriented and has the look and feel she wanted for her business. She believes in local community support and buys many of her ingredients from local vendors, including Lexington-based Wilson Farm.
Located near the town common and an MBTA commuter line stop, Acorn's Bakery serves pastries, bagels and muffins to area customers. Lunch items are also available, and the cafe also does catering.
Andrews Farm Bakery & Cafe is particularly popular among Stonehill students, being located right across the street from their college on Belmont Street. It's known for its cakes, pies, cookies, sandwiches and breakfast pastries. Gift baskets are also available. It also has a drive-through window and 16 tables inside.
