Paul Bartlett and two partners established Bartlett Instrument Company in 1946 as Electric Design & Manufacturing Company in Burlington, Iowa. The company initially supplied industrial, original equipment manufacturing and military users with meters. Bartlett Instrument Company moved to Fort Madison, Iowa, in 1967, the same year its name changed to Bartlett-Emery Instrument Company.
