Since 1948, Walnut Creek Model Railroad Society members have built, maintained, shown and promoted model trains. These hobbyists created Diablo Valley Lines Railroad, a show-stopping HO scale model railroad display (train cars are about 6 to 11 inches long). The display is open to the public on designated days and features 4,300 feet of hand-laid track, steam locomotives, modern diesels, a narrow gauge logging road and mountains that rise to 10 feet. Assistance League of Diablo Valley is a non-profit organization offering philanthropic programs and scholarships such as the Buena Vista Tutorial Program, Operation School Bell, which provides new clothing for kids, Foresight, which provides eye and ear screenings for kids, and TeleCare, which provides friendly daily phone calls to homebound clients.
Mt. Diablo Hog Club was built and continues to be operated by Harley Davidson enthusiasts. Club members pay modest annual dues to participate in rides and monthly meetings. Since 1988 the mission of this club has been to serve as a place for Harley Davidson enthusiasts to meet and ride with other enthusiasts. The group is alive and going strong with over 300 members, run with the help of the Harley Davidson Dealership in Walnut Creek.
Carriage Place is a large residential complex covering serveral blocks with private lanes and parking areas. The Homeowner's Association of Carriage Place is located near the Jones Road entrance.
The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop provides gently used and donated merchandise for customers throughout the San Francisco Bay area. This location is in the old downtown district and offers household items, antiques, artwork, clothing, accessories, jewelry and furniture. There are locations for this store throughout California, and sales help support cancer research for the American Cancer Society.
Adults can enjoy recreational slow-pitch softball at Heather Farm Park. Sign-ups for spring/summer leagues are in February, but players are encouraged to contact the Association about team openings.
