LA ARTCORE was founded in 1979 by Lydia Takeshita, who was a Professor of Art at California State University, Los Angeles. Ms. Takeshita found that her graduate students wanted a continuing contact with art professionals, and a group of graduate students met informally at Brookside Park for critique of their works, and for discussions on relevant issues. After a couple of years of meeting outdoors, the group wanted an exhibition space in which to display their work. CSULA allow them to use their 501 ( c ) and a gallery was opened in old town Pasadena on Raymond Street. When the works began to sell, the accountants at CSULA advise the establishment of a separate, non-profit gallery.Since its inception, LA Artcore, its artists, and contributing members have worked to provide exhibition spaces and a continuing dialogue between artists of diverse cultural backgrounds, as well as with the art viewing public. At present, Artcore maintains two exhibition spaces, the Union Center for the Arts and the Brewery Annex, where new and original art works are displayed each month. Artcore also sponsors several exchange shows which bring artists from around the globe to Southern California, and provides local artists with opportunities to have their works seen abroad. LA ARTCORE is a non-profit organization that helps develop the careers of visual artists and brings innovative contemporary art to the public. Artcore opens two exhibition venues to artists of all ages and diverse cultural backgrounds, and conducts educational service programs that enhance the interaction of artists and their surrounding constituencies.

About HOLAs youth attend overburdened inner city schools, live in communities that are heavily impacted by illegal drug trafficking and gang violence and many children are hindered by poverty and immigration status. Hundreds of underserved children are traveling across one end of a beautiful green park with backpacks and musical instruments or athletics gear, through families perched under trees on blankets reading a book or painting in the middle of this community campus while others play sports, on their way to another green building met by inspirational teachers, coaches, parents and mentors, everyone is coming together and sharing, everyone is learning. One of LAs best kept secrets started in a church gym and almost 20 years later has grown into a vibrant community oasis for thousands of inner-city youth. HOLA is a thriving center that serves the Rampart community with programs in academics, the arts and athletics. The organization is unique in the quality of instruction and individual attention it provides to youth ages 6 to 19. HOLAs campus, located in and around Lafayette Park, is a home away from home for hundreds of kids. They know that they will get the help they need from HOLAs professional staff and highly talented volunteers. Through HOLAs extensive volunteer program, the youth are exposed to a wide array of experts including artists, executives, chefs, athletes, engineers, and counselors who truly commit themselves to providing programs of the highest quality, giving kids the best chance to become successful in life. Through HOLAs unique partnership with the LA City Recreation and Parks Department, students living in poverty have much needed green space a state of the art field turf soccer field, outdoor basketball courts, and a brand new gym that is currently under construction. * Best of all, these facilities are safe spaces, open year round, truly offering the youth of the community an alternative to hanging out on the streets. Carlos ( Carlitos ) Ruiz is our December Star Athlete-of-the-Month. Carlitos is 8 years old and has been a member of HOLA for three years and a soccer player in the Fox Sports En Espanol &ndas...
