Dr. Purswani finished his clinical training at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan, spent a year in research at Cornell in New York, New York, and then spent five years of residency training, beginning in New Jersey and finishing at Baylor University in Houston. Since opening his practice in San Antonio in 1997, Dr. Purswani has focused 100% on pain management. He gives lectures locally, regionally, and sometimes nationally, and teaching diverse pain topics to health care providers (nurses, primary care providers, and other health care providers). Dr. Purswani diligently completes the requirements to maintain his board certifications in anesthesiology and pain medicine. He recertified in pain medicine in January 2019, which is valid until 2028, and his anesthesiology certification is valid indefinitely. He’s also proud to be a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice and is affiliated with several hospitals in the San Antonio area, including Baptist Medical Center and Methodist Hospital. Dr. Achampong studied medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. There, he worked with Dr. Suzanne T. Ildstad (the director of the Institute for Cellular Therapeutics and CEO of Regenerex) to characterize facilitating cells, a special group of cells important for successful organ transplantation. He trained in anesthesiology at The Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey, where he remained actively engaged in anesthesiology and pain management research. Dr. Achampong completed his interventional pain management fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, which is one of the most reputable academic pain management programs in the country. He maintains his advanced credentials with continuing education. Dr. Achampong is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, The Spine Intervention Society, North American Neuromodulation Society, and the American Pain Society.
