Tipton Airport is a former U.S. Army aifield designated for privatization by the 1988 Base Ralignment & Closure Act. The airport closed in 1995 and reopened in November 1, 1999 and is operated today by Tipton Airport Authority, which is a state-chartered public corporation. The 366-acre facility is bordered by Ft. Meade, National Secuirty Agency, and the Patuxent National Wildlife Refuge. Tipton is planned to be a state-of-the-art general aviation facility with a strong community presence and home to many sport, recreational, private, and business aircraft. No scheduled airline, commuter or cargo service is planned or expected at any time, now or in the future. Near-terms plans for the airport include the installation of T-Hangars, rehabilitation of large hangars and pavement rehabilitation. Tipton has a great future ahead of it.

Nicks Airport Inn is a restaurant that features choice meats, seafood, farm-fresh vegetables, homemade breads, desserts, and vintage wines and spirits. In 1961, Nick Giannaris and his wife Tina purchased the Inn, located adjacent to the airport, as a combination type eatery with a bar. Staffed by a single waitress, the one-room luncheonette also functioned as a dance hall and poolroom facility. Over the years, the restaurant expanded to accommodate Nicks loyal patronage and now employs approximately 100 people. Its menu consists of a variety of entrees, such as Nick s crab cakes, filet mignon, stuffed shrimp, Veal Oscar, farm-raised tilapia and stuffed filet of flounder. Nicks Airport Inn is located in Hagerstown, Md.
