The Daughters of Divine Charity established St. Elizabeth Briarbank, a care center for senior women, in 1943. The order, a Catholic international pontifical congregation of women founded in 1868 in Vienna, acquired the location from the Barbour family. Today, more than 1,500 sisters in 16 countries around the world, care for elderly women. The facility is laid out over 13 acres and has 40 furnished private rooms with shared bath. Residents at the institution are also allowed to explore the grounds. The order organizes guided tours of the compound. The institution is in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
